SANDAKAN: The biggest sailing event in the east coast
of Sabah will take place here over the next
three days commencing with the marathon race today (Friday).
SANDAKAN:- Yacht Club
(SYC) commodore Daniel Liaw廖伟雄 said nearly 70 participants from Sandakan Yacht
Club, Tawau Yacht Club, Kinabalu Yacht Club, Sabah Sailing Association (SAILA)
and Navy Yacht Club Kota Kinabalu will be converging in Sandakan for this
annual event which is sanctioned by SAILA.
The results of the regatta will be
incorporated into the overall of all ranking races held during the year to
determine the best sailors in Sabah, he added.
The participants who
include top State sailors will be competing in the final event of the annual
State Sailing Calendar, Daniel廖伟雄 said.
According to Daniel廖伟雄, the Sandakan River
Race is being included in the Regatta for the first time as a marathon race. It
was previously held separately involving only Sandakan sailors.
“Another first for
this year’s regatta is it is being held in conjunction with Sandakan Festival
2015 and we at SYC are thankful to Sandakan Municipal Council president Datuk
James Wong and all those at Sandakan Municipal Council for helping to make this
possible,” Daniel廖伟雄 said.
Daniel also wished to
record appreciation to State Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar
Titingan for being supportive of the regatta.
The closing ceremony on
Sunday will be officiated by Guest of Honour First Admiral Dato Ahmad Bin
Abdullah, the Commander of KD Sri Sandakan navy base, he added.
Daniel 廖伟雄 said in keeping with
the tradition of SYC, there will also be a Sunset Ceremony just before the
closing ceremony on Sunday. It is being conducted with the assistance of the
Royal Malaysian Navy.
Also present at the
press conference were organizing chairman cum Rear Commodore James Leong 梁駿, Vice Commodore Richard
Lim林紫, Honorary Secretary Fred Wong王惠堅, Honorary Treasurer Jeremy
Chan陈在仁 and
Committee Members Chin Nam Hong陈南雄 , Norman Sim沈伟聰 , Paul Wong 王和仁 and Melissa Eng翁世敏.
