SANDAKAN
: Kampung Di Sayang Lupak Meluas fire victims continue to receive assistance
from Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), corporate bodies, political leaders
and individuals.
The
latest to provide assistance to the victims was Badan Amal Kebajikan Tenaga
Isteri-Isteri (BAKTI). A total of 118 families received the food aid
distributed by BAKTI members led its Sabah chairperson Puan Seri Melinda Kurup
(wife of Tan Sri Joseph Kurup).
The
programme was held at the Lupak Meluas Housing For the People (PPR) community
hall in Batu Sapi with the collaboration of the Batu Sapi Member of Parliament
(MP) Office.
Sekong
Assemblyman Datuk Samsudin Yahya and other BAKTI members included Puan Sri
Hadijah Teng Abdullah (wife of Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Haji Mulia), Datin
Lindai Lee (wife of Datuk Liew Vui Keong), Sabah Finance Ministry Political
Secretary Datin Maizatul Akmam Datuk Haji Ahmad Alawi, Datin Junaidah Aji (wife
of Sekong Assemblyman Datuk Samsudin Yahya) were also involved in the
programme.
Batu
Sapi MP Datuk Linda Tsen Thau Lin and her aides including Head Liaison Officer
Kong Nyuk Thou were also present to help hand out the food assistance to the
fire victims.
NGOs,
private and corporate bodies, and individuals had come forward to extend
assistance to the more than 500 villagers who lost their homes in the
blaze that broke out shortly before 11 pm on Feb 4.
BAKTI
is a charity and welfare body consist of the wife of the Prime Minister, the
wife of the Deputy Prime Minister, wife of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker
of Parliament, wife of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker of the Senate, and
wives of the cabinet ministers and deputy ministers. Wives of former cabinet
members become associate members, while past presidents become honorary
members.
