SANDAKAN: The Commercial and Government teams shared the
honours in this year’s Datuk Vincent Pang Shield tennis tournament played at
the Sandakan District Tennis Association (SDTA) clubhouse.
Both teams were tied at 3-3
and finished as joint champions when heavy rain forced the organizers to cancel
the remaining matches during the two-day tournament which was held on July 29
and 30.
Karamunting Assemblyman
Charles O Pang officiated the closing ceremony on Saturday evening while his
father who is the tournament sponsor Datuk Vincent Pang, presented the Datuk
Vincent Pang Shield to the team captains.
In his address, Charles
said he was impressed with the tournament which was aimed in promoting the
spirit of “muhibbah”, rapport and understanding between the private and public
sectors through sports.
Charles gave SDTA a pat on
the back for having successfully organized the tournament.
Meanwhile, SDTA president
Fernando D. Rulloda thanked SDTA patron Datuk Vincent Pang who has been
sponsoring the tournament since 1987.
Fernando also took the
opportunity to congratulate the Sabah tennis team players, officials and Sabah
Tennis Association president Johnson Koh for their achievements at the just
concluded SUKMA in Kuching.
