SANDAKAN: The Sandakan Yacht Club (SYC) is organizing
two major sailing competitions this year.
The Borneo Interport
Regatta and Sandakan Regatta/ Sabah Closed/ Sandakan River Race which are
included in the 2016 Sabah Sailing Calendar by Sabah Sailing Association
(SAILA) will be held in October and November respectively.
This was disclosed by
newly elected SYC commodore Richard Lim (林紫靈) after chairing the SYC
general committee meeting on Saturday.
Lim (林紫靈) said the
prestigious Borneo Interport Regatta is being held for the first time in the
east coast of Sabah and will be participated by sailors from Sabah, Sarawak and
Brunei Darusalam.
“The Sandakan
Regatta/ Sabah Closed/ Sandakan River Race is organized in conjunction with the
annual Sandakan Festival and involves participants from Kota Kinabalu,
Sandakan, Tawau, SAILA and Royal Malaysian Navy, ,” Lim(林紫靈) added.
Lim (林紫靈) said the staging of
the events with the collaboration of SAILA and the support of State Youth and
Sports Ministry, Royal Malaysian Navy Yacht Club Sepanggar and Sandakan
Municipal Council, is undertaken by SYC to promote sailing and complement State
Government and Sandakan Municipal Council efforts to promote tourism.
He also thanked the
Royal Malaysian Police, Sandakan Marine Police, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement
Agency (APMM), other maritime agencies and all those who have helped to ensure
the success of the previous editions of the race and look forward to their
continual cooperation and support.
The organizing
committee of the Borneo Interport Regatta and Sandakan Regatta/ Sabah Closed/
Sandakan River Race is led by our Rear Commodore James Leong (梁駿健), Lim (林紫靈) continued.
This is James’ (梁駿健) third year in
charge of organizing the Sandakan Regatta/ Sabah Closed, Lim (林紫靈) said.

rear commodore James Leong (梁駿健), honorary secretary Fred Wong(王惠堅), honorary treasurer
Jeremy Chan (陈在仁),committee
members Chin Nam Hong(陈南雄), Norman Sim(沈伟聰) and new faces Michael Lim(林子贤) and Davin Wong (王健杰).
